FireWolves Take First Win of the Season, 10-5: by the Numbers

The Albany FireWolves (1-2) defeated the Saskatchewan Rush (1-3), 10-5, at the MVP Arena in Albany, NY. on Saturday night. Saskatchewan was able to tie the game at four in the third quarter, but then the FireWolves went on a 6-1 scoring run, including shutting the Rush out in the fourth quarter to secure the team's first victory of the season. Andrew Kew and Joe Resetarits led the scoring for the FireWolves offense, logging 3 total points each, both on 2 goals and 1 assist. Through three games on the season, Kew currently leads the FireWolves with 7 goals. New acquired member of the FireWolves, Ryan Benesch, had a solid debut for his new team, scoring 2 goals on the night. Benesch played the first two games of the season with the Panther City Lacrosse Club and now leads the FireWolves with 14 total points and 9 assists on the season. Tony Malcom (2 assists), Reilly O'Connor (1 goal and 1 assist), Jacob Ruest (2 assists), and Joe Nardella (1 goal and 1 assist) each had 2 total points on the evening. Jackson Nishimura, Colton Watkinson, Mike Byrne, John LaFontaine, Tanner Thomson, and Jordan Durston all had 1 point each to round out the FireWolves scoring.

FireWolves goalie, Doug Jamieson, was stout all night, allowing only 5 Saskatchewan goals in the contest. Jamieson recorded 31 saves on the night, bringing his total to 110 on the year and his save percentage to .780.

Joe Nardella was nearly perfect at the faceoff dot for the FireWolves, winning 14 of 16. Through three games so far, Nardella has won an absurd 52 out of 64 faceoffs. His 81.3 faceoff winning percentage tops the league among those who have taken at least two faceoffs on the season. Nardella also led the FireWolves with 9 loose balls on the night, bringing his total to 24 on the season, a team best.

Defensively, LaFontaine led the FireWolves with 4 caused turnovers. LaFontaine also added 6 loose ball recoveries, behind only Nardella's 9, Malcom's 8, and Adam Bomberry's 7. Bomberry also recorded 2 caused turnovers and 1 blocked shot in his season debut.

Albany was just 1-4 on power play opportunities with the 1 power play goal coming from Kew in the fourth quarter.

The FireWolves will be back in action on Saturday, January 15 for a road matchup versus the Philadelphia Wings at noon.
