Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats announced they have traded kicker Kyle Hooper to the Tri-Cities Fever for future considerations.
Hooper is a Fort Myers native and graduated from Bishop Verot High School in 2001.
He attended Indiana State University, where he was an All-American selection his junior and senior seasons. He left ISU as the Sycamores' all-time leading scorer.
Hooper spent 2007 with the Fort Wayne Fusion. He finished 4 for 17 on field goal tries and connected on 69 of 75 point after attempts. Hooper finished second on the Fusion with 81 points.
The Firecats decision to trade Hooper means Jon Peattie will be the team's kicker to start the 2008 season. Peattie served as the Firecats kicker in the final five games of the 2007 season. He scored 32 points by connecting on 32 of 38 PATs. Before coming to Southwest Florida, Peattie started at the University of Miami for four years, leaving Coral Gables as Miami's second leading scorer in school history (336 points).
"Kyle and Jon are two of the best kickers in the league," Firecats Coach Kevin Bouis said. "We were fortunate to have signed both of them. During the off season it looked like one or both of them might sign in the AFL and when it came down to it, we were more comfortable going with Jon because he was in our system last season. Kyle is a great kicker."
The Florida Firecats open the 2008 season this Sunday, April 6 against the Texas Copperheads in Houston.
