Firecats Improve to 5-0 at Home with 66-54 Win Over Macon

Estero, FL- A crowd of 5,007 at Germain Arena witnessed the Florida Firecats improve their record to 8-2 with a 66-54 victory over the Macon Knights on Saturday night.

The Firecats got on the board early as the U.S. Army Ironman of the game winner Ethenic Sands returned a Macon fumble 41 yards on the opening possession. The Knights responded by scoring on their next possession and cutting the Firecats lead to 7-6.

The second quarter saw both teams score a pair of touchdowns and the Firecats take a 34-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Firecats got three touchdowns in the third, two of which game by way of receptions by Sands and the other one from Brittney Tellis. Macon receiver Chavis McCollister responded with one of his three touchdown catches. McCollister was the Schutt Offensive Player of the Game and led all receivers with 14 catches and 197 yards.

Clenton Crosssley started the fourth quarter by running in a three yard carry that gave the Firecats the lead for good. Magic Benton finished the scoring with one of his two touchdown catches while leading the Firecats with eight receptions for 101 yards. Magic now has 127 career touchdowns and has scored 772 points.

Chris Wallace continued his dominating season by completing 19 of his 28 passes for 254 yards and six touchdowns. Knights quarterback Chad Elliot threw two interceptions while going 27 of 39 for 291 yards and six touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball the Firecats were led by Corey Bailey, the ADT Defensive player of the game, who tallied 9 and a half tackles and also had an interception.

The ‘Cats travel to Birmingham next week to take on the Steeldogs, while the Knights (4-7) have a bye week.
