
Bakersfield Blitz Lose to the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, 63-64

Bakersfield - The Bakersfield Blitz lost to the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz on Saturday, June 17, with the final score 63-64. The defeat takes the Blitz to an overall record of 7-4.
1st Quarter The Blitz started off good with kicker, Jaret Johnson's kick off resulting in a touchback giving the Blitz a starting point at the 5 yard line. However, the Yard Dawgz grabbed the first touchdown of the game within the first three minutes with WR/DB Al Hunt's 9 yard catch in the end zone. Shortly after, Blitz OS Rennard Reynolds caught an 11 yard touchdown pass from QB, Bobby Pesavento, tying the game at 7-7. Hunt had a 12 yard touchdown reception for the Yard Dawgz. Blitz WR/DB, Nathan Munson's first touchdown of the game came with a 37 yard pass from Pesavento. The Blitz only lead in the first half came with Pesavento's 30 yard touchdown pass to Reynolds. The first quarter ended at Blitz 21, Yard Dawgz 14.
2nd Quarter In the second quarter, the Yard Dawgz were first to score with QB, Craig Strickland's 49 yard touchdown pass to Hunt. The Yard Dawgz scored again with a 1 yard reception. Yard Dawgz's OS, Jarrail Jackson had his first touchdown of the game on a fumble recovery. Blitz FB/LB, John Johnson had an unexpected 3 yard rushing touchdown. Jackson scored again for the Yard Dawgz with a 58 yard touchdown from a kick off return. Munson's second touchdown of the game was with a 24 yard pass from Pesavento. The first half ended with both teams squeezing in field goals with a score of Blitz 38, Yard Dawgz 45.
3rd Quarter With only 19 points scored in the third quarter, the Blitz started with Reynolds third touchdown of the game. Recently named ADT Defensive Player of the Week, Blitz OL/DL Jerry Turner, blocked a field goal which resulted in a safety, giving the Blitz a two point lead at 47-45. Shortly after, Jaret Johnson had another successful field goal for the Blitz. However the Yard Dawgz ended the third quarter in the lead with a touchdown in the last seconds. The third quarter ended at Blitz 50, Yard Dawgz 52.
4th Quarter Reynolds opened the fourth quarter with a touchdown giving the Blitz a lead of 57-52. Yard Dawgz FB/LB, Mark Pierce scored a rushing touchdown. As the Yard Dawgz attempted a two point conversion, Mahanke intercepted the pass. Blitz WR/LB, Eric Mahanke caught a 25 yard touchdown pass from Pesavento. The Blitz failed a two point conversion attempt which left the score at 63-58. Within the last minute of the game, Hunt scored for the Yard Dawgz with a 16 yard touchdown pass from Strickland. The Blitz intercepted Strickland's pass for a two point conversion, holding the Yard Dawgz at a l point lead, 63-64. With 1.9 seconds left, the Blitz lose to a controversial call of a 43 yard field goal attempt. The game ended at Blitz 63, Yard Dawgz 64.
Blitz OL/DL, Jerry Turner was awarded the ADT Defensive Player of the Game for the second week in a row. QB, Bobby Pesavento completed 28 of 40 passes, which included 7 touchdown passes.
The Blitz will be taking the field against the Arkansas Twisters at home on Sunday, June 25. Kick off is set for 3:00 p.m. at Rabobank Arena.
