Firecats Guaranteed A Playoff Spot

Florida Firecats News Release


Estero, FL- With the Albany Conquest falling to Quad City this past Saturday, the Firecats have been guaranteed a spot in the post season. The Firecats are 9-2 with 5 games remaining, all against American Conference opponents. Florida is 5-0 against the rest of the South Division this year.

Macon is coming off a 53-41 come from behind win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and has won 2 in a row in making a late season run for a post season berth.

In 2005 six teams from the American Conference will qualify for the playoffs. The six qualifying teams consist of the two division champions and four Wild Cards, determined by best overall record. Seeding in each conference is based on overall record, with the top two seeds in each conference reserved for the division champions, regardless of record. In the First Round (August 5-7), the two division winners in each conference receive a bye. The winners of the American and National Conference Championships will face off in the 2005 ArenaCup on August 27 at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, Louisiana.

The 2004 ArenaCup Champion Florida Firecats host the Macon Knights this Saturday June 25th with a chance to clinch the South Division for the 2nd year in a row. The Firecats defeated Macon 35-32 to open the season back on April 1st. The winner of the South Division gets a 1st round bye and will host the 2nd round match up.
