Firecats Come From Behind To Defeat Defending Champs

Estero, FL- 5488 fans were on hand to watch the Florida Firecats (2-1) down 26-0, come from behind to knock the Memphis Xplorers (3-1) from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 60-55 victory.

Led by Offensive Player of the Game OS Magic Benton's 5 TD receptions the Firecats picked up a key win over their divisional opponents.

Memphis jumped out to an early 20-0 1st quarter lead and stretched it to 26-0 after Defensive player of the game OL/DL Chris Eggelston's 34 yard interception return for a score.

Florida finally got on the board when Wallace threw his first of 7 TD's on the night to Magic Benton with 7:05 to go in the 2nd quarter. Florida's cut it to 33-21 at the half and followed it up with a score to open up the 2nd half.

Ironman of the Game Terrance Quattlebaum scored 1 of his 4 touchdowns to increase the Xplorers lead back up to 39-27, but the Firecats then added a pair of scores to take their 1st lead of the night 41-39.

The teams the traded touchdowns down the stretch until WR/LB Ethenic Sands came up with an interception of a Brian Jones pass in the endzone with 1:59 remaining in the game. Brent Burnside finished the night with the games final score with 1:41 to go, capping off the Firecats biggest come from behind win in a long time.

Florida will head out on the road next week to play the Bossier-Shreveport Battlewings, while Memphis returns home to host the Macon Knights.
