Fire Releases 2006 Schedule

The Louisville Fire's 2006 schedule was released today by the arenafootball2 league office. The 2006 schedule features match-ups against six playoff teams from 2005 including two games with the Memphis Xplorers, who defeated the Fire in the 2005 ArenaCup. The 2006 season will also see the return of the Quad City Steamwheelers to the Fire's division.

The Fire will kick-off 2006 in Wilkes-Barre, PA against East Division foe Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers on Friday March 31 at 7:00 P.M. The Fire will host their first home game of the 2006 season on Friday April 14 against the Manchester Wolves at 7:30 P.M. This will begin a stretch of three straight home games for the Fire in April.

Friday May 5 the Fire will travel to Memphis for an ArenaCup rematch with the Memphis Xplorers; the Xplorers will make a return trip to Freedom Hall on July 8. Saturday May 13 will see the Fire travel to rival Quad City with the Steamwheelers visiting Freedom Hall in the Fire's final home game of the 2006 season on July 15.

Other 2006 highlights will include the return of Ron Selesky, the Fire's head coach during its inaugural 2001 season, to Freedom Hall with the Birmingham Steeldogs on Friday April 21. Saturday April 29 will see the Fire square off with the Green Bay Blizzard who swept the season series with the Fire in 2005, 2-0. The Fire will also return to Florida in late July for an American Conference Championship rematch with the Florida Firecats. The entire 2006 schedule is listed below.

"This will be a very challenging schedule as far as quality of opponents," said Fire head coach Tommy Johnson. "Our division alone has five teams that made the playoffs last season. It should be challenging for the team and fun for the fans to see some of these teams in Freedom Hall."
