Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO, IL (MAY 1, 2009) - The undefeated Chicago Fire (2-0-4, 10 pts.) are set to face the 2009 expansion side Seattle Sounders FC (4-2-0, 12 pts.) this Saturday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. CT as the team returns home to TOYOTA PARK for their third home contest of the season. This Saturday night will be 80's night at TOYOTA PARK and fans are encouraged to dress in their favorite clothes from the 1980's. The Fire currently sit tied with the Kansas City Wizards for second place in the Eastern Conference, one point behind conference leader Toronto FC. The Fire are the only team that remain undefeated in 2009 play and will look to extend that streak Saturday night.
Fire forward Brian McBride was voted Major League Soccer's Player of the Month for April. McBride notched four goals in four League games during the month, and led the Fire to a 1-0-3 record in April games. The 36-year-old MLS All-Time Best XI forward has made an immediate impact in his first full season with the Chicago Fire as he leads the league with five goals.
McBride and the Fire attack will look to continue their success in the attacking third, as the Fire and Real Salt Lake are tied at the top of the league in goal scoring (12 goals) to start the season. The Fire attacking line will be going against one of the stingiest defenses, as Seattle's backline has allowed just three goals in six games played for a goals-against average of 0.50.
The Sounders are coming off a 2-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes last week that snapped their two game losing streak as well as a 4-1 win over Real Salt Lake in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play-in game on Tuesday.
