LOUISVILLE HEAD COACH: JEFF BROHM

A Louisville native, he was named Mr. Football in the state of Kentucky in 1988. He was also named Kentucky High School Player of the decade for the 1980's. He played at U of L from 1989-1993. While at U of L, he started for three years and completed 402 passes for a total of 5,451 yards. He is ranked fifth all time in passing yards at U of L with the leader being Chris Redman. He led the Cardinals to a victory in the 1993 Liberty Bowl and was named the most valuable player when he cmpleted19 of 29 passes for 197 yards and one touchdown. He was also voted the Cards' MVP in 1992 and 1993.After Brohm completed his eligibility at U of L, he began a six-year career in the NFL. He started his NFL career in 1994 with the San Diego Chargers who played in Super Bowl XXIX. He played for the San Francisco 49er's from 1995-1997 where he was the backup quarterback to Steve Young in 1997. From 1998-2000, he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos, and Cleveland Browns. In 2001, he played in the XFL for the Orlando Rage. He was named first team all XFL and had the highest QB rating in the league at 99.9.

SAN DIEGO HEAD COACH: CREE MORRIS

The Riptide's first head coach is former Orange Glen High School quarterback Cree Morris, who has playing experience with the NFL, Arena Football League and the World League. Morris also played collegiate with San Diego State and St. Mary's College. In 1992, Morris transferred to Division II St. Mary's College in Moraga, California, where he earned a B.A. in Health, Fitness and Recreation with an emphasis on teaching. In two seasons with the Gaels, he threw for 3,451 yards and 24 TDs, as well as six rushing scores. He is listed 16 times in the school's all-time record books after leading them to consecutive winning seasons in just 15 starts. He participated in the training camp of the Los Angeles Raiders in 1994. In April of 1995, Morris signed with the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League, however, the St. Louis Rams invited him to their training camp. In 1996, Morris spent a season in the World League of American Football with the London Monarchs. The following year, Morris began his two-year Arena career spending a year and half with the Arena League's San Jose SaberCats (1997-98) and finishing his career with the Iowa Barnstormers (1998). Following his playing career, Morris focused on bringing Arena football to the San Diego area. After a three and a half year journey, that lofty goal became reality with the San Diego Riptide. He has served as an assistant coach at John Swett High in the Bay Area (1994), his alma mater Orange Glen (1997-98) and Castle Park High (2000-01).

DROPBACK: Anthony Payton increased our score by brining in 3 TD's, former 2001Fire player Carl Lyles has resigned and brought in 2 TD"s in his first game back with the Fire. Miguel Merritt ran in 1 TD.

FORWARD MOTION: Louisville has a BYE on May 11 th , but the Fire returns after a three week road trip to host the Columbus Wardogs in Freedom Hall on May 18 th at 7:00PM. Running into the Wall : Defensive Specialist Delvecchio Walls has come up BIG on defensive and is now 2 nd in af2 with 13 passes defended for the 2002 season. Walls has 22.5 tackles, I forced fumble, and two interceptions for the season. Passing Prowess: Quarterback Matt Pike is 6 th in the league for passing yards and total offense. His averages are 242.8 passing yards per game and 248.5 total offense per game.
