CHICAGO, IL - The Chicago Fire (9-5-8, 35 pts.) fell to the Los Angeles Galaxy (8-4-10, 34 pts.) 2-0 tonight in front of a sold out crowd of 20,000 fans at TOYOTA PARK. Despite the loss, the Fire remain in second place in the Eastern Conference standings, four points behind the defending MLS Champion Columbus Crew (39 pts. in 22 games played) and five points ahead of Toronto FC (30 pts. in 21 games played). The Fire return to action against the Colorado Rapids this Sunday, August 23rd (5 p.m. CT, My50 Chicago) as the team plays their second consecutive match at TOYOTA PARK and their third game in eight days.
The Galaxy took the lead in the 23rd minute as forward Mike Magee maneuvered through two Fire defenders and put a low hard shot into the right side of the net past Jon Busch diving to his right.
Landon Donovan doubled the Galaxy's lead as he chased down a long pass from Magee into space behind the Fire defense and entered a foot race with Fire defender Dasan Robinson. Donovan sprinted up the field with the ball and finished on a shot from eight yards out, bringing the final score to: Chicago Fire 0, Los Angeles Galaxy 2.
The loss ended the Fire's two-game winning streak at home and was the Fire's first loss at home since June 5th when the Fire fell to the Houston Dynamo 1-0.
