 Arena Football League (1987-2008)

Final three undefeated teams look to stay perfect

March 28, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release

NEW YORK - The three undefeated teams will look to avoid an AFL "April Fool" in Week 5 as divisional play strengthens.

The ArenaBowl XX Champion Chicago Rush (3-1) looks to extend its current home winning streak to six games when they host the Los Angeles Avengers (2-1) on Sunday, April 1, at 1:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN360.com. A Chicago victory will keep the Rush in first place in the Central Division and match the franchises longest winning streak.

The Rush, ranked No. 4 in this week's Schutt Sports Poll, is led by QB MATT D'ORAZIO and WR BOBBY SIPPIO. D'Orazio (817 YDS, 20 TDs) leads the team in both passing and rushing, while Sippio (31 REC, 414 YDS, 16 TDs) averages four TDs per game and leads the AFL in scoring (96 points). The Avengers (2-1) are led by second-year QB SONNY CUMBIE (878 YDS, 16 TDs) who is the only QB in the AFL that has not thrown an interception this season (131 attempts- includes 2006).

The Avengers, ranked No. 6, are coming off their second road win of the season and are poised to tie or take first place in the Western Division. A victory would also tie their second-longest streak for consecutive road wins with three.

The undefeated and Southern Division leading Georgia Force (4-0) strive to keep their perfect record in tact when they travel to Columbus to take on the Destroyers (1-2) on Friday, March 30, at 7 p.m. ET on CSN- Live, and on SIRIUS Radio Channel- 119. Led by AFL Offensive Player of the Month QB CHRIS GREISEN (1,174 YDS, 30 TDs) and WR CHRIS JACKSON (33 REC, 494 YDS, 11 TDs) the Force, ranked No. 2, have scored 60+ points in each game this season and are the only team that has not surrendered a sack.

Columbus QB MATT NAGY (647 YDS, 14 TDs) faces his former team for the first time and will attempt to knock them from the ranks of the unbeaten in the process. Nagy still ranks as the all-time leading passer in Force history and ranks in the top five of all major passing categories. WR DAMIEN GROCE (20 REC, 269 YDS, 7 TDs) hopes to elevate the Destroyers in pulling off the April Fools weekend upset and capture their first home win of the season.

The Dallas Desperados and Austin Wranglers renew their interstate rivalry in the fourth installment of the "Cattle Drive on I-35" on Saturday, March 31, at 8:30 p.m. ET on AFL NET. The Wranglers (1-3) look to pull off the upset as they were one of only two teams to defeat the Desperados in 2006 (Philadelphia). This will mark the second time in consecutive seasons that Dallas (4-0) faces Austin with an unblemished record. Last season, both teams stood at (3-0) as Austin defeated the Desperados, 56-49.

Led by League leading QB CLINT DOLEZEL (984 YDS, 25 TDs, 135.9 rating) and Ironman of the Month WR/DB WILL PETTIS (33 REC, 358 YDS, 12 TDs), the Desperados, No. 1 in the poll for the fourth consecutive week, look to set a franchise record with their first six-game winning streak in team history. Austin will attempt to bounce back from their 70-63 loss to Nashville in Week 4 as QB ADRIAN MCPHESON (1,006 YDS, 16 TDs) hopes to continue the Wranglers QB average of five passing touchdowns per game against Dallas.

The Philadelphia Soul (3-0) look to keep their undefeated season alive as they travel to New York to face the New York Dragons (1-3) on Sunday, April 1 at 1 p.m. ET (SIRIUS Radio Channel- 119). Led by Week 4 Offensive Player of the Week QB TONY GRAZIANI (737 YDS, 18 TDs), the Soul, ranked No. 3, are attempting to go 4-0 for the first time in franchise history. The Dragons, who are led by QB ROHAN DAVEY (661 YDS, 10 TDs) and WR/LB MIKE HORACEK (20 REC, 309 YDS, 6 TDs), are 3-0 all-time against the Soul at home.

Divisional play heats up as the Orlando Predators (2-2) travel to New Orleans to face the VooDoo (2-2) in a battle for second place. New Orleans is 10-3 all-time at home against division opponents, with two of the three losses coming at the hands of the Predators. Led by AFL all-time leading passer QB ANDY KELLY (41,061), and AFL receptions leader WR/DB TYRONNE JONES (36 REC, 387 YDS, 11 TDs), New Orleans will attempt to win their first game against Orlando in franchise history.

This week's games also include: Arizona at Kansas City (AFL NET) on Friday; Tampa Bay at San Jose on Saturday; Nashville at Colorado (FSN Rocky Mountain-SDD) on Sunday; and Utah at Las Vegas (FSN Utah- Live, Prime Ticket- Live) on Sunday.
