Final Caps Game of 2010 Rained Out

September 6, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

Victoria, B.C. - The Edmonton Capitals closed out the season on a three-game winning streak, thanks to wins on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Victoria over the Seals. The teams were supposed to play once more on Monday, but that game was rained out, ending the Caps' 2010 Golden Baseball League campaign.

The Victoria Seals announced Monday afternoon that the Labour Day game, a scheduled 1:35 p.m. (PT) start time against the Caps, was cancelled. A build-up of water on the playing surface at Royal Athletic Park and no break in the weather forecasted for the evening forced the teams to scratch the series finale.

Thanks to their three road wins to close out the season, the Caps finished the GBL's second half with an even 22-22 record, putting them in fourth in the North Division. Their overall record for the year was much more impressive at 51-38, putting them in fifth among the GBL's 10 teams.

The Caps also had some fantastic individual achievements this season, as first baseman Cliff Brumbaugh led the GBL in home runs with 23, and left fielder Larry Bigbie won the batting title with a .403 average. On the mound, pitcher Lou Pote blew the rest of the league away with 123 strikeouts.

The Chico Outlaws won the North Division's first half with a 33-12 record, and the Calgary Vipers went 30-15 to win the second half. The teams will square off later this week for the division title, and the winner will move on to play either Maui or Orange County in the league championship.

The Caps will bid farewell to their clubhouse for the year and clean out their lockers on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and media availability will be held at the same time.

The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats for 2011 are now available, and individual game tickets will be available next season for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
