Filling out the Roster

January 19, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
West Texas Roughnecks News Release

Odessa, Texas. The Odessa Roughnecks have added three more athletes to the roster for the upcoming 2005 season. Many players have spent the off-season getting in shape and training in the hopes of moving up the ranks towards the Arena and National Football Leagues. Roughnecks Head Coach Chris Williams had great success in 2004 promoting players to AFL teams across the nation. The All-Star game, to be hosted in Odessa later in the season, will be another event at which players can showcase their talents for scouts and coaches. Coach Williams enthusiastically said, "T.J. Glover is a local player we're expecting to see perform at his best, and we expect Babb to be one of the best players in the league. Jason Johnson is working to be our 1# QB and we will look to him to lead on and off the field."

T. J. Glover, a Wide Receiver/Defensive Back, 6'1" and 185 lbs, played for Angelo State. Glover was a former standout player at Midland-Lee and earned All-State as a defensive back. Glover was also named as an All-American in the triple jump as a member of the Angelo State track team. Glover was a standout in 2004 with the Lubbock Lonestars playing in the IFL Championship game versus the Amarillo Dusters. Glover caught 47 passes for 637 yards and 12 touchdowns in his one year experience with indoor football.

Jason Johnson, a Quarterback, 6'4" and 200lbs, played for Western Kentucky. Johnson spent the 2004 season with the Roughnecks but suffered serious hand injuries before the start of the season. He finished the season backing up quarterback Roger Linn. Johnson completed 9 passes for 198 yards and 4 touchdowns, ran for 49 yards and scored 3 rushing touchdowns. Johnson will go into training camp as the 1# Quarterback in 2005.

Joel Babb, a Wide Receiver, 6'1" and 195lbs, played at the University of Alabama and in 2004, with the Roughnecks. Babb missed 9 games due to a broken ankle, but caught 29 passes for 433 yards and 11 touchdowns. This explosive receiver was named to the IFL All-Star game but was unable to play due to his injury.

Training camp for the Odessa Roughnecks and the NIFL begins on February 20th. Just a few VIP level season tickets are still available.
