
Figueroa Placed on DL, Patchett Returns to Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY (April 30, 2009) - The Salt Lake Bees announced today that the club has placed infielder Luis Figueroa on the Disabled List with a broken left fibula. The injury occurred in the top of the ninth inning in the Bees home game against Portland on April 28. Figueroa is estimated to be out approximately seven weeks.
The Bees have also reassigned right-handed pitcher Eddie McKiernan to Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and recalled infielder Gary Patchett from Double-A Arkansas.
Figueroa, 35, has appeared in 15 games for the Bees in 2009, hitting .250 with three doubles and four RBI. In 112 games for Triple-A Iowa in 2008, he finished with a .300 batting average with 18 doubles and 46 RBI. The Bayamon, Puerto Rico native signed as a free agent with the Angels in early 2009.
McKiernan, 20, appeared in four games for the Bees in 2009, owning a 0-1 record and 8.10 ERA. In four games of relief for Rancho Cucamonga this season, he registered five strikeouts while holding opponents to a .188 batting average. The Monrovia, Calif. native was originally drafted by the Angels in the 17th round of the 2007 draft.
Patchett, 30, has appeared in two games for Arkansas this season, hitting .333 and scoring two runs. The Harbor City, Calif. native spent both the 2007 and 2008 seasons in a Salt Lake uniform, registering a .239 batting average with 11 doubles and 35 RBI last season. Patchett re-signed with the Angels in early 2009.
