Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) will hold their first tryout camp of the summer May 13-15 at Hazel Park Ice Arena in Hazel Park, Michigan. The open camp gives players their first chance to showcase their skills to the Fighting Falcons this summer.
The tryout will include team practices with the Fighting Falcons' coaching staff, with a minimum of four scrimmage games. Off-ice testing and training will be conducted by 5-Star Hockey at their state-of-the-art facility in Hazel Park.
Operated by former professional hockey players John Gruden (NHL) and Tod Hartje (AHL), 5-Star Hockey uses the latest technology to test skills with speed and accuracy tests and quick hands drills.
With lofty goals for the 2011-12 season, the Fighting Falcons are committed to making the adjustments necessary to win in the NAHL.
The coaching staff hopes that they will find the players that can help make next season a success in their open camps May 13-15 and June 17-19. The best players from each camp will be invited to Port Huron's main camp at the end of July.
The information gathered by 5-Star Hockey will be considered along with the insights of the Fighting Falcons' scouting staff during on-ice sessions to help the Fighting Falcons form their roster for the 2011-12 NAHL season.
The Fighting Falcons look forward to their first full off-season, after joining the NAHL late last summer. The team's inaugural season finished much better than it started, as 15 of Port Huron's 18 points came after Bill Warren took over as head coach for the second half of the season.
Though they finished four points behind the Chicago Hitmen for eighth place in the North Division, the Fighting Falcons made it a chase as seventh-place Chicago earned just four points in the last three months of the season.
The Fighting Falcons look to have their roster finalized by early August. Last season, the team wasn't able to hold a single tryout until mid-August.
