SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze is pleased to announce the addition of UFL DL Gabe Long (6-3, 290, Utah) and WR Ernie Pierce (6-4, 209, Kansas State) to the 2011 roster.
"We are extremely pleased to have Gabe Long in a Blaze uniform for 2011," said Head Coach Ron James. "He is a proven professional and brings a wealth of experience to this league and the Blaze."
Long spent two seasons with the Las Vegas Locomotives of the UFL, earning two championship rings in their victories over the Florida Tuskers in 2009 and 2010. He was originally signed by the Houston Texans of the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2008. Long attended the University of Utah after transferring from Fullerton Junior College where he was a first-team all-American. In his single season with the Utes, he recorded 23.0 total tackles, including 4.5 for a loss of 20 yards and 1.5 sacks. Long is the fifth former Ute to be added to the Blaze roster for the 2011 season.
Pierce most recently spent time with the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL and played collegiately at Kansas State. One of his best games came against the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners, recording 11 catches for 176 yards. In two years at Kansas State, Pierce tallied 33 catches for 483 yards and five touchdowns.
"Pierce is a dynamic, athletic wide receiver that comes from a solid college background and we are looking forward to see how that translates into the Arena Football game," said James.
