A total of 32 teams crowded into the parking lot of Citizens Business Bank Arena on Saturday to take part in the Red Bull Fiesta de Futbol street soccer event.
Teams competed in 3-on-3 games on fields measured out to 35-feet by 60-feet. Three divisions of play were open to players 18 and older, with divisions open for Men's Pro/Open, Men's Premier and Coed teams. Each team was guaranteed three 20-minute games, with the top four teams in each division advancing to the semifinals.
The event featured teams from across Southern California and beyond. Teams came from Santa Barbara, San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange counties, as well as the Inland Empire and as far south as Baja California..
Besides soccer, the event - co-sponsored by Red Bull, the Ontario Fury and Food 4 Less - players and spectators were treated to music and food booths, as well as giveaways and information from local business sponsors.
"We're very pleased with the turnout we had for this first-ever event of its type in Ontario," said Fury President Bernie Lilavois. "The action was intense and all the players and spectators had a great time out on the parking lot."
Members of the Ontario Fury's Premier team won the Men's Open Division, while the team Carniceras Baja won the Premier Division. In the Coed Division, Milanistas took the title.
The Ontario Fury will open the 2015-16 with an exhibition game against Spain's Sevilla FC at 3 p.m. Oct. 25 at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Tickets for the game, starting at only $10, are on sale now at the Citizens Business Bank Arena box office or online at AXS.com. The game is also available as part of the Ontario Fury's season ticket package, which includes all 11 home games starting at only $90 per seat.
