Fierce Competition Between Brown Bears and Wild

November 3, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wenatchee Wild News Release

As expected, the final game between the Brown Bears and the Wild was neck and neck. Both teams were playing close to their peak performance and you knew when any skater went out, it was down to the wire every second. With the conclusion of this series, Kenai is heading back to Alaska with a 2-1 record for the weekend and 2-1 shootout final for the night. The Wild are playing at a level that is incredibly solid and whenever a line goes out, they are showing that the team has a very strong core unit upon which everyone can rely on. 2,186 fans packed the arena tonight and no matter how tired the players were, they never stopped playing at their top level. The Brown Bears and the Wild shot evenly on both goals and ended the night with 26 shots each.

There was no scoring in the first period of this game.

Jack Gessert of Kenai opened the scoring for this game at 3:21 into the second period. Matt Rudin and Ben Campbell were credited with assists.

Ryan Chiasson put the Wild on the board to tie everything up at 19:09 in the third with help from Colin Burston.

There was no scoring in the overtime period which forced a shootout.

Here are the shootout results:

Wenatchee:

Jake Ahlgren - no

Ben Baker - no

Tyler Rockwell - no

Brendan Harris - yes

Ivan Bondarenko - no

Kenai:

Tanner Schachle - no

Joseph Kaszupski - no

The Wild took only two penalties tonight and they went to David Powlowski (Tripping) and Ryan Chiasson (Tripping). As I stated above, the Wild and the Brown Bears took an even amount of 26 shots. Wenatchee had a shot record of 7-7-7-5-0 and Kenai River had a record of 7-12-6-0-1

While in the cage for 65 minutes, Zach Quinn stopped 24 out of 25 shots.

To quote Coach Little after tonight's match up, he said, "We had good goaltending tonight that gave us a chance. Bottom line is, for a team that is our age to have success, we need our power play to produce. When we get the man advantage, we have been out worked. It has nothing to do with skill we need more want to and will to. For our first 3 games in 3 days set, I think we learned some things about our personal. At the 1/4 mark of the season, if the playoffs started tomorrow, we would be tied for the last spot to get in. We're not that far away. We need to keep learning to play in this league and continue to get better."

The next time the Wild will play will be on November 7th and 8th in the Town Toyota Center when the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees come to Wenatchee. Both games will start at 7:05 pm PST! Don't miss out!
