West Texas Roughnecks News Release
ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks are excited to announce that former offensive linemen, Peter Fields, will be traveling to Green Bay, WI to have additional workouts with the Green Bay Packers (NFL). According to Fields and the Packers organization, Fields will either be scheduled to leave on Sunday (September 27) and hold a workout on the following Monday (September 28), or leave Monday and hold the workout on Tuesday (September 29). It is uncertain at this point if the Packers will have Fields workout individually or with the team.
Fields received a phone call from the Packers organization late Tuesday morning, September 22, regarding travel arrangements to Green Bay. Recently, the Packers (1-1) are coming off a Week Two loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, September 20 by the score of 31-24. Additionally, Packers offensive linemen, Chad Clifton, has not participated in practice due to an ankle injury, and the Packers offensive line has given up a total of nine sacks in two games this season. Green Bay travels to St. Louis for a Week Three match-up with the Rams on Sunday, September 27.
"I don't have the words to explain how excited I am about making the trip to Green Bay. The Packers plan to evaluate and test me in certain drills but right now I am just looking forward to the trip and hopefully I can help the team in anyway possible." stated Fields.
In two seasons with the Odessa Roughnecks, Fields (6'10", 335 lbs.) developed into one of the most dominating offensive linemen the Roughnecks have had in recent years. In his first season with Odessa (2008) Fields played in 14 games total (12 regular, two post-season). By being recognized for his pass protection and run blocking, Fields was named to the 2008 Intense Football League All-Star Team. Additionally, Fields registered four total tackles and one tackle for loss on defense, and caught a six-yard touchdown pass on offense.
In 2009, Fields played and started in 11 games for the Roughnecks on the offensive line. Fields once again provided consistent protection on the line and registered 2.5 total tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss on defense.
"This is a great situation for Peter and for the Odessa Roughnecks. He has always had the athletic ability and the talent to become a NFL-caliber player. I'm proud of Peter for all the hard work he has put forth with the Roughnecks and he should be looking forward to all the opportunities that await him." stated Odessa Roughnecks Head Coach, Chris Williams.
