(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks today announced the signing of outfielder Daniel Fields. The former big leaguer will begin his first season with the Ducks, second in the Atlantic League and ninth in professional baseball.

"We are excited to bring Daniel aboard this season," said Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. "He impressed us at the plate last year and can handle any role in our outfield as well."

Fields joins the Ducks after spending 2017 in the Atlantic League with the Bridgeport Bluefish. He played in 85 games and compiled a .297 batting average, 12 home runs, 51 RBI, 54 runs scored, 18 doubles and a .387 on-base percentage. The Detroit native put together the league's longest on-base streak last season as well, reaching safely in 26 consecutive games from June 23 to July 29. He batted .330 and posted a .413 on-base percentage during that stretch. Defensively, he played all three outfield positions, totaling a .978 fielding percentage and committing just three errors. Long Island acquired Fields' league rights in the first round of the Bridgeport Bluefish Player Dispersal Draft this past November.

The 27-year-old played the first six seasons of his professional career in the Detroit Tigers organization. He reached the Major Leagues in 2015 with his hometown team, collecting a double and a run scored in his MLB debut. The son of former big league outfielder Bruce Fields was named an MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2013 after batting .284 with 10 homers, 58 RBI, 71 runs, 130 hits, 27 doubles and six triples in 118 games with the Double-A Erie SeaWolves. He later split time with the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations in 2016, reaching the Triple-A level with both. Fields was originally drafted by the Tigers in the sixth round of the 2009 amateur draft.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
