October 12, 2009 - Northern League (NL)
Lake County Fielders News Release
Zion, IL. The Northern League's 2010 expansion franchise, Lake County Fielders, has named Fran Riordan the club's inaugural field manager. Riordan, 34, comes to the Fielders from the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League, where he served as field manager from 2004 to 2009.
On July 26, 2009, Riordan became the winningest manager in Frontier League history with his 413th win over 9 seasons managing in the league. Riordan finished 2009 with 435 career wins, 2 league championships as a player/manager with the Richmond Roosters (2001, 2002), and another championship as manager with Kalamazoo (2005).
"I'm excited for the opportunity to manage the Fielders," says Riordan. "A new stadium in a baseball rich market is a terrific situation for a field manager. I'm proud to be part of this outstanding Fielders organization, and look forward to the challenge of building a winning program."
The Fielders, owned in part by Academy Award winner Kevin Costner, will move into a $17 million multi-purpose baseball stadium in Zion, IL beginning in June, 2010.
Fielders' President Rich Ehrenreich announced the Riordan hire today, stating "Kevin (Costner) and I feel that our community deserves the best in everything we do, and when it comes to winning games, Fran was at the top of our list from day one."
Northern League teams will play a 100 game schedule in 2010 from May 20 to September 6. Tickets to the Fielders inaugural 2010 season are available at the team's retail store in the nearby Gurnee Mills Mall (6170 West Grand Av, Gurnee, IL 60031), by calling 847-731-8000, or by logging onto www.fieldersbaseball.com.
