River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, MO - Every Sunday next summer when the Rascals play a home game, they will not be the first ones to take the field.

Area little leaguers, aged 6-12, will have the opportunity to join a Field of Dreams team presented by St. Peter's Bone and Joint Surgery. The Field of Dreams allows the little leaguers to play a 45 minute game prior to every Sunday night home game.

"Not only will we provide care to the Rascals team in 2008, but we are looking forward to our sponsorship of the new Field of Dreams program, developed by the Rascals," St. Peter's Bone and Joint Surgery Executive Director Jim Kidd said. "This program will offer a unique opportunity to educate and care for the little league teams in St. Charles County. At the same time, the program will offer little league teams the exciting opportunity of playing at T.R. Hughes Ballpark."

Little league players and teams can sign up for the Field of Dreams opportunity at their upcoming little league concession stands. Three age groups will make up the league, which will come to a head at the end of the Rascals 2008 season with a championship tournament.

"What a great way for a little kid to learn and appreciate the game of baseball," Rascals President Steve Malliet said. "I wish I would have had the opportunity to play on a professional team's field growing up. We're so appreciative to everything St. Peter's Bone and Joint Surgery is doing with the Rascals and throughout the St. Charles County community. We think the kids and parents are really going to love this."

The games will start at approximately 4:30 pm and finish roughly around 5:15 pm, setting the stage for the Rascals to take the field at six.

While the kids' primary focus will be the on-field activities, Kidd hopes this new league will help the awareness of how to stay injury free.

"Dr. Brandon Larkin, who is our sports medicine specialist, will have the opportunity to instruct these young people both on physical preparation for sports, as well as how to prevent injuries from occurring," Kidd said.

The Rascals season is set to kickoff its home schedule on May 24 against the Gateway Grizzlies, with the first Sunday home game coming one day later as against the cross town rivals.

"This is just one more reason why we feel our tenth anniversary is truly going to be a special year here in O'Fallon," Malliet continued. "We're going into our second year here as a front office staff and the fans are going to see in excited product of baseball not only on the field, but in the atmosphere of the crowd, the entertainment, everything."

Season and group tickets for the Rascals diamond season are currently on sale by calling the box office at 636-240-BATS.
