Demolition Slay Titans, Jump Back to 4th with 7-4 Victory

DAYTON, OHIO - The Dayton Demolition took care of business against a high-scoring, red-hot first place Danbury Titans squad on a Sunday evening affair, jumping back to fourth place in the Federal Hockey League. Dayton dismantled the Titans 7-4 with six goals in the first two periods and solid goaltending from Louie George.
The Wrecking Crew got to work, quickly pouncing shots at Danbury goalie Nikita Ivandikov. The Titans' goalie was coming in with a perfect 6-0 record and a very solid Goals Allowed Average of 2.16. His toughest opponent tonight was Scott Kozlak, who finished with four scores in his 20th game.
At the 6:14 mark, it was Kozlak's first goal from a Myles McCauley shot bounce. Kozlak, hanging around the side of Ivandikov, gave Dayton a 1-0 lead. At the 10:31 mark, it was Scott Kozlak again, this time from Jacques Lamoureux and Martin Uhnak passing well behind the goal line on a Power Play goal. Suddenly, Danbury saw themselves down 2-0 halfway through the 1st Period. Quickly after Kozlak's second of the night, it was Robert Vanwynsberghe digging the Danbury deficit even deeper, with some more help from Uhnak and Michael Dolman. As the three combined for some blistering pressure around the right side, it was Vanwynsberghe tucking the puck in on the left for a 3-0 Dayton score. At 17:01 of the period, Danbury's first goal of the game was from John Scorcia slipping one through George, with Phil Bronner seeking out the Titans forward up ahead in the slot. With the Titans getting on the board, the Demolition had one more goal in the 1st in crunch time, with defender Myles McCauley cleaning up a miscued clear and flashing one home. Dolman and Vanwynsberghe took the initial carry with McCauley bringing up the pack in the neutral zone and sending it home for a 3-1 Dayton lead after one.
In the 2nd Period, Dayton put away two more goals past Ivandikov to increase an already tall lead to five. At the 8:43 mark up on a 5-on-3 advantage, Brian Marks connects home from the far faceoff circle, from Robert Vanwynsberghe's 2nd assist and Adam McKenzie. Nearly ten minutes after The Captain struck net, it was Scott Kozlak finishing off a hat trick tally, with Lamoueux and Cory Giroux assisting on Dayton's final goal of the 2nd period to go up 6-1 after forty minutes of play.
Danbury came out of the locker rooms refocused and recharged, continuously flying forward towards George. In the first 6:30 of the third, the Titans scored three goals to give the fans a little bit of a scare at Hara. At the 1:34 mark, Ian DeLong sliced the first of three for Danbury, from Mike Driscoll's pass up front. The second Titans score was at 2:35, with Ryan Patsch blazing one between the points from Tyler Gjurich's pass out of the neutral zone. The last goal of the night for Danbury was at the 6:22 mark, with Driscoll flying fast on a delayed penalty. All of a sudden, it looked like the first-place team with 20 goals scored the previous two nights was coming for that Dayton lead. However, Scott Kozlak was not done. Ryan Timar connected up to Kozlak who found the back of the net for the fourth time tonight gave Dayton the permanent hold on the lead. The Wrecking Crew's job was done after fending off a solid 6-on-5 Extra Attacker motion for nearly three minutes, as Dayton won 7-4. Danbury's 10-game winning streak was over, finished in the books.
With the win, Dayton improved to 18-26-5 on the year and 2-3-1 versus the Titans. Danbury fell to 36-12-4 on the year, 17-7-3 away from home. With the 7-3 home loss suffered by Berlin, Dayton leapfrogged the River Drivers for the second time this weekend for fourth place in the league with time running out in the regular season.
Dayton's Louie George picked up his seventh win on the year on a 34-save performance, opposite of Nikita Ivandikov's first loss in a Titan top with 32 saves. Robert Vanwynsberghe was the third star with two assists and a goal, followed with Myles McCauley's one goal, one assist night. The top star was Scott Kozlak, who score four times and picked up his 20th goal on the year in his twentieth game.

Prowlers 4 Goals in Third was the Difference

Port Huron Prowlers late surge lifts them over the Berlin Riverdrivers.
The first period was a quiet one with each team netting one goal. Berlin started off the scoring 4:44 into the game when Jiri Pestuka buried a one-timer past Prowlers goalie Andy DiCristofaro. Riverdrivers Tyler Prendergast and Stephen Gallo had assists on the goal. The lead was short lived for Berlin when Port Huron tied the game at 1. That goal coming at 11:15 of the first when Justin Alonzo found the back of the net for the Prowlers. Joe Pace Jr got credit for the assist. Teams would head to the locker rooms 1-1 after one period of play.
The second period was much of the same as one would pull ahead just for the other team to comeback. At 4:08 of the second Port Huron's Matt Fuller gave the visitors the lead with Dustin Skinner and Jared Hicks assists on the goal. Prowlers would make it 3-1 at 11:38 of the second when Alonzo buried on home coming from Ludlow Harris. The Riverdrivers would mount a comeback and tie the game back up with 2 goals just 31 seconds apart. At 13:52 Pavel Kubena found the back of the net with Curtis Warren and Austin Daae getting assists. Then Prendergast would make it 3-3 at 14:23 of the second period. Pestuka and Andre Niec with assists on the Prendergast goal.
After the second intermission teams would take to the ice with a 3-3 game and 20 minutes left to play. The tie game didn't last long, just 1:52 into the third Prowlers Hicks would make it 4-3. It would stay 4-3 until the final 4 minutes of play. Port Huron would break the game open at 16:28 as Paul Falco getting the goal. Down by two goals Berlin would go with the empty net. At 18:27 Scott Witmyer of the Prowlers would find the empty net giving the visitors a 6-3 advantage. Jason Pietrasiak extened the lead for the prowlers at 19:24 of the third and securing the win for Port Huron 7-3 over the Berlin Riverdrivers.
The Riverdrivers next game is Friday March 25 at 7:35pm when they head to Brewster, NY to take on the Brewster Bulldogs.
