Tri-Cities Fever News Release
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Tri-Cities Fever fell behind early and could not recover in a 55-28 loss to the Colorado Ice at the Budweiser Events Center on Sunday afternoon.
It is the Fever's fifth straight loss since winning its opening game of the season in February.
Tri-Cities (1-5) look to get back in the winning column Saturday night at Green Bay (0-6).
Since the Fever's opening win, the last five games have looked eerily similar. Tri-Cities has struggled in the first half to put points on the board through a combination of penalties and turnovers. By the time, the Fever weather the storm and settle down, it's too late.
That was the case again Sunday against the Ice (4-2).
After cutting the margin to 10-6 early in the second quarter, Colorado scored 28 unanswered points to lead 38-6 at halftime. The lead grew to as big as 52-12 in the fourth quarter when former Fever running back Dennis Kennedy scored on a 3-yard run.
The Fever added two fourth-quarter touchdowns, one on an 18-yard run by Keithon Flemming and the other on a 1-yard run by Houston Lillard.
Lillard, in his second start back with the Fever, completed 20 of 36 passes for 154 yards and one touchdown. He threw three interceptions.
Flemming led the Fever in rushing with 35 yards on seven carries.
Dejuan Miller had six receptions for 26 yards to lead Tri-Cities. Harry Peoples added four catches for 43 yards.
Donyae Coleman had two interceptions and a game-high 10 tackles to lead the Fever defense.
The Fever fell behind 10-0 in the first quarter before getting its first and only score of the first half on a 10-yard touchdown reception by Tre Young from Lillard to cut the margin to 10-6 with 9:37 left in the first half.
Tri-Cities did not score again until 10:27 left in the third quarter on a Coleman 38-yard interception return. Its next offensive touchdown did not come until 9:36 left in the game on Flemming's run.
