Tri-Cities Fever News Release
Kennewick, WA- The 7 - 4 Tri-Cities Fever head into Billings, Montana Saturday night with a five game winning streak on the line. The Mavericks (4 - 6) are coming off a tough loss on the road at San Angelo, Texas 42 - 34.
Montana is fighting to keep a playoff spot, while the Fever are fighting for the number two position in the Pacific West Division with the Wyoming Cavalry. "That second spot in our division is very important," say Fever Head Coach Dan Whitsett. "It is the difference between having to play on the road or getting an early home game in the playoffs."
The Fever boast an impressive 3 - 2 record on the road, with a loss early in the season at Wyoming (when the only quarterback on the roster, Tyler Thomas, broke his wrist in the second quarter) and then just a two point defeat at the hands of Everett. Montana will not be an easy task on the road either says Coach Whitsett. "They are a solid team, they throw well, have some experience, and a coach that has been around this league.....they understand this game and what it takes to be successful."
The Fever will depart by bus early Friday morning for Billings. "We try to make sure we travel with the mind-set that our players need to be as fresh as possible on game day," says Whitsett. "our owners understand that and if at all possible and logistics fall into place then we are fortunate enough to be able to accomplish this. Travel can be a nightmare in this league and we have had teams fly in on game day. They basically have to get off the plane and head to the arena. Our owners give us the ability to maximize our success rate by doing things right."
Notes: Fever quarterback Doug Coleman and running back Paris Moore put in new season high performances last Saturday night against New Jersey. Coleman passed for 259 yards, while Moore rushed for 55 yards.
The Fever Defense recorded 11 stops, 5 sacks, an interception and a fumble in their dominating performance against New Jersey. They also gave up a season low 12 points.
Jarvis Dunn is ranked 9th in the league in scoring with 112 points and 8th in touchdowns. Mike Rigell is now ranked 1st in receptions with 69 receptions for 795 yards and 21 touchdowns.
The Fevers kicking team is in the 5th spot for kicking points with 71 to date for the season.
Doug Coleman remains in the number one in passing.
Ron Childs is ranked 4th in fumble recoveries and Jeremy Bohannon is ranked 6th in tackles.
Injury Report: Offensive Tackle Josh Jelinek will return to practice this week for the first time since injuring his shoulder three games ago against Courpus Christi, Texas. He is on a day to day status.
