Watertown Privateers News Release

1000 Islands Privateers forward Tyler Fernandez extended his point streak to 15 games as his first professional hat trick led his team to a 5-2 victory over the Rome Frenzy today at the JFK Civic Center.

Goalie Richard Sillery stopped 39 of 41 shots to earn the Privateers a weekend split with the Frenzy.

Rome returned last night from Danbury at 2 AM, following a shootout loss to the Whalers. They didn't appear to be playing their third game in as many days when they took a 1-0 lead off a blue-line rocket from Kyle Roberts. Fernandez tied the game to close first period scoring as he deposited a Frenzy defensive zone turnover.

The Frenzy retook the lead in the second as Vince Nucci tapped in a rebound. The Frenzy controlled early play with consistent shooting and strong defensive play, blocking Privateers' opportunities. The momentum turned when Adam McAllister and Michael Byrd fed Brownville's Brian Marks to tie the game in the second and Fernandez gave 1000 Islands the lead to close the second period off passes from Alex Goupil and Ryan Pearson.

Adam McAllister extended the lead in the third period with Pearson picking up the helper, and Fernandez completed the hat trick by driving home a rebound. Alex Goupil and Pearson got the assists. Fernandez credits the team with his success and noted how they've gotten closer through adverse situations.

"It's been a tough stretch with the numbers of games we've played lately. We've battled through it and I've tallied some points on the way."

The Privateers host the Rome Frenzy on Friday night at 7 PM at the Bonnie Castle Rec Center.
