FC Edmonton News Release

EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton (2-2-0) faces Atlanta Silverbacks (1-1-2) in their fifth match of the North American Soccer League (NASL) Fall Season, July 26 at Clarke Field at 2:00 p.m. MT. The Eddies will be looking to continue their hot start that has them trailing first-place Ottawa Fury FC by just a single point in the standings.

After a NASL Spring Season that saw Edmonton registering just two victories and nine points while conceding a league-high 22 goals, the Eddies have opened up the Fall Season with a revitalized defensive effort while maintaining their offensive output that was potent through the 10-game Spring Season. The Eddies back line has been particularly impressive, allowing just three goals while goalkeeper Matt VanOekel has started his season on the front foot, registering two clean sheet victories and earning an NASL Team of the Week nomination for his play in Week 1.

Atlanta has seen their Fall get off to a somewhat stagnant start, accumulating a 1-1-2 record to sit fifth in the league table with three points through four matches of play. They will be playing their second match in five days after falling 2-1 to Ottawa Fury FC in the nations capital on Wednesday evening.

The Eddies will return to Clarke Field-also known as the House of Horrors-for the first time in nearly two months, a place that saw them go on an 11-game undefeated streak between the 2014 and 2015 NASL seasons. They will be poised to start another positive run at home with a lineup that is nearing full health after months of injury setbacks.

"We're at home and we're excited about returning to Clarke Field this weekend," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said. "We now have a number of the injured players that have been missing for so long available for selection. We've got guys pushing for first team positions...it's a great situation to be in."

FC Edmonton and Atlanta Silverbacks kick-off their match, July 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Clarke Field. The match will be broadcast and streamed locally through City TV. The match will be preceded by the inaugural Woodall Cup, a charity match in honour of Edmonton police constable Daniel Woodall. Tickets to both matches are available by clicking HERE.
