Chelmsford, MA. - On Wednesday, January 16, Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) Commissioner Chris Hall released the 2013 FCBL regular season schedule. "We're looking forward to the 2013 season. We continue to work toward improving the level of talent and competition in the league. We also strive toward strengthening our ties within the community, and offering the most exciting, fan friendly baseball experience in New England." Opening day is set for Wednesday, June 5 and features the re-match of the 2012 Championship series as the two-time FCBL Champion Nashua Silver Knights will host the North Shore Navigators at Historic Holman Stadium in Nashua, NH. The other opening night match-up is slated for Fuessenich Park in Torrington, CT between the visiting Wachusett Dirt Dawgs and the hometown Torrington Titans. In addition to these two franchises, the Martha's Vineyard Sharks, Brockton Rox, Seacoast Mavericks, Pittsfield Suns and Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide will be competing throughout the summer for league supremacy.
Each team will play a 54-game regular season schedule and is slated to play 27 games at home and 27 games away. The regular season will run from Wednesday, June 5 until Thursday, August 8 which will be immediately followed by a brand new playoff format. The 2013 FCBL playoffs will feature a three-round format consisting of the top six seeds from the regular season. In round one, the top two seeds will receive a bye, and there will be a one game, winner take all play-in between the #3 and #6 seed, and the #4 and #5 seed. Round two will feature a 3-game series between the league's #1 seed and the lowest seeded winner from round one, and a 3-game series between the league's #2 seed and the highest seeded winner from round one. The FCBL championship will be determined by a final 3-game series between the two teams who won their semi-final round.
The 2nd Annual FCBL All-Star Game will be hosted this summer by the Pittsfield Suns. The game will be held on Thursday, July 25 at historic Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, MA. The Pittsfield Suns are owned and operated by The Goldklang group, a sports entertainment consulting and management firm, whose portfolio also includes the St. Paul Saints, Hudson Valley Renegades, Charleston Riverdogs, and Ft. Myers Miracle. Further details surrounding All-Star Game festivities will be released over the course of the coming weeks.
The FCBL mission is to provide student-athletes from New England and New England colleges, the opportunity to compete and play with the elite players from across the country, and to promote them to MLB organizations. Each roster must contain at least 13 players who reside in New England states or compete at a New England university/college. In addition, the Futures Collegiate Baseball League will provide a family friendly, affordable, and fun experience for the communities that we play in, in a minor league style setting.
