FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - FC Tulsa has added another rock to its 2021 backline. The versatile Nigerian defender Solomon Kwambe has re-signed with the club for the 2021 season, pending league and federation approval.
Kwambe started the first four matches of the 2020 season for Tulsa, but suffered a hamstring injury against Saint Louis FC in August which sidelined him for a month. Kwambe would start two more matches down the stretch as FC Tulsa advanced to the USL Championship Playoffs.
"We are all positive on the ability of Solomon Kwambe," said FC Tulsa head coach Michael Nsien. "Solomon came into preseason last year in very good form. He was extremely important to us as he played heavy minutes at center back and full back. Our expectations will be high for Solomon to provide balance and durability to our back line. We want to see a complete season with Solomon, having now adapted both to the USL Championship as well as FC Tulsa's expectations."
Kwambe's six appearances and 386 minutes in 2020 made him an important role player for the club. His 2.1 tackles per 90 minutes and 1.9 interceptions per 90 minutes were both third on the team.
"It means a lot to me because I'm coming back to finish what I've started with this great team," Kwambe said. "I'm ready to rebound for this season. It was never my intention to deal with injury, but these things happen, and I thank God that I'm back and better. I'm looking forward to improving on the field for the team."
Kwambe joined FC Tulsa after spending his prior professional career in the Nigerian Professional Football League. He has made 18 appearances for the Nigerian National Team, including caps in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.
He becomes the eighth player announced to FC Tulsa's 2021 roster, with more player announcements on the way in the coming weeks.
