FC Tulsa Comes Home with Split Points After Seagrist Levels the Score
April 14, 2024 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
Sacramento, Calif. - Playing with 10 men for the majority of the match, FC Tulsa returns home from Sacramento Republic with one point after a 1-1 draw after triple digits on the clock.
FC Tulsa traveled back to California this weekend taking on one of the best teams in the Western Conference of the USL Championship.
The conditions of the pitch were noticeable as Sacramento saw almost 24 hours of rain before the match on Saturday. Although the rain was supposed to let up before the match, it didn't stop until warm-ups ended.
Right off the bat, Sacramento Republic was handed two yellow cards in the first five minutes of the match. Defender Patrick Seagrist had multiple defensive stops that prevented the home team from scoring early on.
FC Tulsa was forced to play the rest of the match with only 10 men just 15 minutes into the match as Midfielder Edwin Laszo was given a tactical foul yellow card resulting in a confrontation involving several players on the pitch, which led to Laszo receiving a red card for the incident.
The second half saw three substitutes for FC Tulsa including Midfielder Milo Yosef, Forward Diogo Pacheco, Harvey St Clair.
Well into the second half, Seagrist scored from the outside of his left foot, sending one long from beyond the 18 yard box to match the first half Sacramento Republic goal.
"I'm so proud of the entire team and staff. This was truly a test of our character and we passed with flying colors," Head Coach Mario Sanchez said. "To play almost 75 minutes a man down and to get a result against one of the best teams in the league is a tremendous achievement."
The home team edged out FC Tulsa in the shot column 22-5 and in the possession column with 74%. Despite that, FC Tulsa is able to return to Tulsa with a point and going unbeaten in two straight matches.
