FC Tulsa Clinches Playoff Spot in 2-0 Victory over Colorado Springs
October 3, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) - FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - Tulsa is playoff-bound in 2020!
FC Tulsa emphatically punched its ticket to the 2020 USL Championship Playoffs with a 2-0 victory over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at ONEOK Field in its home finale on Saturday night. Two first half goals courtesy of Marlon Santos and Rodrigo da Costa were more than enough for FC Tulsa to claim its postseason spot.
Playing in front of its home fans one final time in 2020, FC Tulsa started brightly and never let up as it was rewarded with the opening goal in the 36' minute on a header from Marlon. The winger received the perfectly-weighted pass from da Costa who tallied his second assist of the season.
Four minutes later it was da Costa himself who finished a chance. Midfielder Ariel MartÃnez sprang da Costa on a breakaway. Da Costa's initial shot was saved by Switchbacks FC keeper Sean Melvin, but the rebound ricocheted back off da Costa and looped into the net to double the lead.
From there, FC Tulsa salted away the win to claim its third straight victory and seventh straight result, both club records.

BACK IN THE POSTSEASON
FC Tulsa will advance to the postseason for the second time in club history. As the second seed in Group D, FC Tulsa will face the winner of Group C. El Paso Locomotive FC is currently at the top of Group C and will clinch the No. 1 seed with a win on Sunday vs. Real Monarchs SLC. If El Paso loses or draws, New Mexico United could jump El Paso. Either way, FC Tulsa as the second seed in Group D will be on the road in the first round of the postseason.
DA COSTA BOOKENDS 2020
It was only fitting that Rodrigo da Costa tallied the final goal and final Man of the Match for FC Tulsa in the 2020 regular season. The Brazilian who was named All-USL Second Team in 2019 as a Roughneck, started his 2020 campaign scoring Tulsa's first two goals. Now he scored its final regular season goal.
LEWIS HAS LIGHT WORK
FC Tulsa keeper Sean Lewis kept his fourth clean sheet of the season and has very little work to do. Colorado Springs had zero shots on target meaning Lewis didn't have to record a save to keep his sheet cleanly. It's his second clean sheet in the last three matches.
MARLON FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT NIGHT
Winger Marlon Santos got on the scoresheet for the second straight night with his third goal of the season. The diminutive forward ironically scored with his head for the second consecutive contest.
SOME CLUB HISTORY
FC Tulsa will enter the postseason hotter than it has ever been. Saturday night's win was the seventh straight result for the club. Since entering the USL Championship in 2015, FC Tulsa has never had a seven-match unbeaten streak. It is also the first three-match win streak in club history.
UP NEXT
FC Tulsa will learn its playoff opponent this week and will play in the first round of the postseason next weekend. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+. Fans can stay tuned for Official FC Tulsa Watch Party information.
