KANSAS CITY (July 1, 2016) - FC Kansas City announced the signing of defender Molly Menchel, who had been training with the Blues' practice squad, on Friday. She will be available for Saturday's game against the Washington Spirit and will suit up as No. 24.

"We are very excited to get Molly on the roster," Blues coach Vlatko Andonovski said. "she has been with us for a few months and has put a lot of time and effort in to win this part. I am very proud of her and pleased with her work ethic and mentality."

Menchel, a University of Virginia graduate, is tied for first in program history having appeared in all 96 career games. She is the all-time leading scorer amongst defenders with 13 goals in her career. Eight of the 13 were game-winners.

Between college seasons, Menchel played a key role in the USL W-League with the DC United Women and Spirit Reserves. She was then selected by the Washington Spirit in the third round of the 2014 National Women's Soccer League College Draft.

She joins a backline that has recorded three shutouts in the last four games. The two-time defending champions are unbeaten in their last four games.
