FC Cincinnati 2 Earn First Victory over Toronto FC II, 2-1

April 3, 2022 - MLS NEXT Pro (MLS NEXT Pro)
FC Cincinnati 2 News Release

FC Cincinnati 2 defeated Toronto FC II, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at NKU Soccer Stadium to earn the first win in club history.

FCC 2 improve to 1-1-0 (3 points) with the win. Toronto dropped to 0-1-0 in their first game of the season.

Arquimides Ordonez scored the first goal in FC Cincinnati 2 history with a superb individual effort in the 4th minute. Nick Markanich played a long ball down the left side which Ordonez took a touch past Toronto's oncoming keeper and calmly weaved between oncoming defenders to bury an early opening goal.

It's the second club milestone for the FC Cincinnati Academy product Ordonez, who became the first Homegrown Player to appear in a game with the first team last July.

Andrew Akindele scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute when Ordonez fired a cross in which Akindele touched in front of the net to secure the goal.

Roman Celentano played hero in goal when a penalty kick was issued deep into stoppage time for Toronto, but the No. 2 overall selection in MLS SuperDraft 2022 saved the penalty and secured the win for the Orange and Blue.

FC Cincinnati 2 return to action Sunday, April 17 at New England Revolution II. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. from Gillette Stadium.

FC Cincinnati 2 Head Coach Tyrone Marshall

"Fantastic performance from the boys with our response from last week going to Philly and playing a very good team in Philly. Then coming back here at home especially being in front of the home fans and your family, you want to get out of the gate and get a good result and I thought the boys responded well by getting a result at home and closing the gate at the end."
