FC Cincinnati 2 Earn a Point in MLS NEXT Pro Season Opener against Chicago Fire FC II

FC Cincinnati 2 ended in a draw against Chicago Fire FC II, 1-1, Sunday evening at Scudamore Field at NKU Soccer Stadium. Chicago came away with the shootout win, 5-3, as both teams started the season 0-0-1.

The first half of play was a defensive battle between the Orange and Blue and Fire II as both clubs were held scoreless. Both keepers, Hunter Morse and Patrick Los, had a save in the first 45.

Omari Glasgow got the scoring started as he put Chicago ahead 1-0 in the 71st minute off a pass from Dylan Borso. It only took the Orange and Blue three minutes to respond as Amari Daley found the back of the net on his own in the 74th minute to even the score 1-1. Daley's game-tying shot was his first MLS NEXT Pro goal.

For the second time in two years, Cincinnati and Chicago went head-to-head in a shootout after the score remained even after full time. Chicago was able to net all five to Cincinnati's three in the shootout and came away with an extra point in the draw.

Five players made their first appearance in the Orange in Blue for FCC 2: Yeiner Valores, Yair Ramos, Amir Daley, Alejandro Guido, Peter Mangione and Brian Schaefer. Stefan Chirila was the lone FC Cincinnati Academy player to make his first appearance in the Orange and Blue in the season opener.

FC Cincinnati 2's next match is against Chattanooga FC at Finley Stadium in Tennessee on Saturday, March 23. The match will kick off at 3 p.m. ET.

AS IT HAPPENED

CHI: Omari Glasgow, GOAL - 71' (0-1) - Dylan Borso caught the clear by the Hunter Morse and sent a pass just outside the penalty box. Glasgow collected the pass and put it into the back of the net.

CIN: Amir Daley, GOAL - 74' (1-1) - Daley stole the ball off a clear from Chicago's keeper and dribbled from midfield into the penalty box. Once he set his dribble, he fired towards goal and found the left side of the net to even the game at one.
