LOS ANGELES - Even though it is their day off, Avenger players regularly take part in "Double Days" ... the team's community outreach program that makes a pair of visits to schools and/or hospitals on either Monday or Tuesday each week.

This week, fullback/linebacker Lavell Mann and quarterback Kevin Thompson spent the day visiting with the young adults at the Transitional Independent Living Program in Pasadena on Tuesday, May 9.

"This was really rewarding for me to talk to this young adults about the ups and downs that life brings you," Mann said. "I think the group gained a lot from what Thompson and I had to say."

At Transitional Independent Living Program, Mann and Thompson, spoke to the young adults about working hard and staying positive. They also let the young adults know that going to school is the key to opening doors to success. The two Avenger representatives also answered questions from the students, signed autographs and passed the football around with the group.

In November 2000, The Sycamores established the Transitional Independent Living Program (TILP) to provide support for foster and probation youth emancipating from group or foster homes. This program is designed to satisfy a critical need for housing and supportive mental health services for youth as they make the transition from foster care placements to independent living and adulthood. Today, The Sycamores Transitional Living Program provides services for 24 youth.
