Fayetteville Hands Pee Dee a Biting Loss

February 22, 2007 - Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) - Twin City Cyclones News Release

The Cyclones were hoping to avenge the loss the Fayetteville FireAntz served them last Saturday, but the FireAntz managed to get an early lead and keep Pee Dee at bay for the rest of the game.

Starting goalie for the Cyclones, Leni Di Costanzo, let in three quick goals in the first period; with two of the goals coming from Rob Sich. Pee Dee was not able to get a shot past Fayetteville netminder Chad Collins, leaving the score 3-0 going into the second.

Fayetteville struck again in the second stanza with two goals coming within the first ten minutes. Cyclones coach Chris Crombie made the decision to take out Di Costanzo and insert Brad Buss. Pee Dee finally managed to get on the board with a goal from Jeff Marler at the 9:48 mark, and another from Edan Welch at the 14:18 mark. Going into the third, FireAntz were up 5-2.

Daryl Moore got in a quick goal at the 5:30 mark of the third to shrink the gap 5-3. However, Fayetteville added another to their lead with yet another goal from Sich. Pee Dee's John Gurskis gave hope to an amazing comeback with two goals coming within the last two minutes of the contest. However, the FireAntz were able to hold on, handing the Cyclones a 6-5 loss.

The Cyclones will be back in action on Saturday night as they welcome the Huntsville Havoc. Fans, be sure to take advantage of the amazing ticket special for Pack the House Night! It's two for $5.00 tickets in the 400-level! For more information, contact the Cyclones at 843-432-1234
