Fan Favorite Pink Night Returns to Borleske Stadium

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Are you tough enough to wear pink? The Walla Walla Sweets baseball team is stepping up to the plate in 2013 with Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night, presented by Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center. Breast cancer strikes one out of every eight women, and is one of the most common cancers treated at the Cancer Center. Over the next several weeks the Sweets will be releasing the full promotional schedule for the season, and the team is excited to start by announcing the return of Pink Night, a fan favorite.

"As an organization we are thrilled to be able to partner with Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center to bring back Pink Night," said Sweets vice-president and general manager Zachary Fraser. "Our fans have always shown great support for the event and cause, and we're looking forward to seeing a stadium full of pink on June 22 against Medford."

Tough Enough to Wear Pink offers a fun way to help raise awareness of breast cancer detection and treatment, as well as raise money for care of local women facing breast cancer.

Sweets players and coaches will take to the field in custom pink jerseys, caps, and wristbands to show their support for breast cancer awareness. Players will swing pink bats and special pink bases will be used during the game, as well as other special touches that truly will allow Borleske Stadium to be awash in pink.

Each game-used item will be available for auction with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Providence St. Mary Foundation. In addition to game-used gear, the Sweets and Providence St. Mary will team up to auction off a special game-day experience for two lucky fans.

Money raised goes into special funds maintained by the Providence St. Mary Foundation to benefit local breast cancer patients. Services provided through the funds include free screening mammograms for local women who cannot afford them, and helping breast cancer patients with wide range of needs that are not usually covered by insurance such as travel expenses, wigs, medications and items for symptom control. Funds also are used to advance breast cancer treatment.

"We are really excited about Tough Enough to Wear Pink with the Sweets," said Chris Garratt, Providence St. Mary Foundation executive director. "It gives the community the chance to come out, show their support, and have a lot of fun while at the same time making a real difference in the lives of women who are fighting breast cancer. Money that is raised here stays here."

The Providence St. Mary Foundation starting April 1 will offer ticket packages that will include custom pink t-shirts. On game night, look for a sea of pink in the Borleske grandstands. Additional details are being developed to create the most festive environment in the West Coast League.

"One reason that I think we see such strong support from the community is because so many people have a personal connection to the cause," added Fraser. "Whether it's a family member, a friend, or a co-worker, breast cancer is something that affects people everywhere, and we are lucky to have the Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center."

"The strength of working directly with the Foundation on this event is that 100% of the dollars raised stay here in the Valley," said Fraser. "Our friends, families and neighbors are served directly by the generosity of our fans - one of the true benefits of being in this community."
