Vermont Frost Heaves News Release

Barre, VT - The Vermont Frost Heaves will be hosting the Manchester Millrats in their first Subway Champlain Cup matchup of the year tonight at the Barre Auditorium. Tonight's game will be FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT and all tickets sold at the door are being offered at half off the regular admission price. Tip time is 7:05 p.m. doors open at 6:00 p.m.

The 2008/2009 Champlain Cup series between the Manchester Millrats, Quebec Kebekwa, and the Vermont Frost Heaves is a season long competition celebrating the 400th anniversary of both Lake Champlain and the great city of Quebec City. All games are intra-league games between the 3 participating teams and each team will play the other 3 teams in one home and one away game over the course of the 2008/2009 PBL season.

Points will be awarded as part of each game played in the series, and the team with the most points will be awarded the Champlain Cup in honor of their achievement. Points are awarded as follows:

- One point for leading at the end of a quarter (possible four points per game)

- Two points for winning a half (possible 4 points per game)

- Five points for winning the game

- Total possible points = 13 per game

Currently Vermont is in third place in the overall Subway Champlain Cup series and after tonight will still have two more Subway Champlain Cup games left. Next Thursday in Manchester against the Millrats and on March 29 in Quebec City against the Kebs.

Vermont defeated Manchester in an overtime thriller in Burlington on March 1, and tonight's game is the Frost Heaves final home game of the season. Tonight's Northfield Savings Bank Community all-Star is David Hale, Director of Career Services at the New England Culinary Institute. David often lends his culinary skills to various fund raising events for worthy causes. Tonight he will be playing to benefit the construction fund of the Performing Arts Center at Cabot school in Cabot Vermont. Home of a coach we all know!

The playoff picture is clearing up somewhat at this point and it appears that Vermont will be facing Wilmington in the Wild Card game. If Wilmington wins their remaining three games against Detroit, they will host the Wild Card game in Wilmington on a date that is still to be determined. If Wilmington loses two out of their last 3 games, and Vermont beats Quebec on March 28, Vermont will host the Wild Card game in Vermont on a date still to be determined. If both teams end up tied at 14-6, the location will be decided by the PBL's tie-breaking rules and at this point, it appears it might come down to a coin flip.

Tickets for all Frost Heaves games are available at the Flynn Box Office in person, by calling 802-86-FLYNN or online at flynntix.org. Tickets for Barre games only are also available at Allen Lumber in Barre and First in Fitness in Montpelier. For more information go to vermontfrostheaves.com. The Frost Heaves are proud to partner with the Vermont State Employees Credit Union and the Vermont Army National Guard.
