Last Saturday, the Evansville BlueCats scored their most convincing win of the season, easily defeating the Peoria Rough Riders 70-31 at Roberts Stadium. The win placed the BlueCats firmly in the middle of the playoff race with only 3 games remaining this season.
Still alive in the UIF playoff picture, Evansville currently sits in a 3-way tie for the #6 seed with Bloomington (5-7) and Sioux City (5-7). All 3 teams sit only one game behind Omaha (6-6) and Ohio Valley (6-6). With a victory Saturday night, the BlueCats will move up in the playoff standings. The top 3 seeds in the UIF playoffs are already locked up, with Sioux Falls (12-0) holding the top seed, and Lexington (10-2) and Rock River (8-4) claiming the #2 and #3 seeds. Evansville could rise as high as the #4 seed in the playoffs before it's all over. As a #4 seed, the BlueCats would get a home playoff game at Roberts Stadium, which would be the first home playoff game in franchise history. Six teams will make the playoffs in 2006.
This Saturday, the Gus Doerner football toss will be having a special "Fan Appreciation Night" edition at halftime. Before the game and during the first quarter, fans can purchase footballs to be "tossed" at targets on the field during halftime for a chance to win prizes from Gus Doerner sports. One lucky fan has won the grand prize $500 gift certificate to Gus Doerner Sports each of the last two weeks! Prizes are awarded every week for the football closest to the targets on the field. This week, the "FinHeads" Booster Club will be selling the footballs.
The Harley Davidson motorcycles from ABATE of Indiana - Region 8 will return to Roberts Stadium once again for this weekend's game. They will be on hand and participate in the BlueCats pre-game ceremonies. ABATE Region 8 will be selling raffle tickets for a new Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide to be given away at this years Boogie on July 22nd, 2006.
