Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI -The Port Huron Fighting Falcons will look to bounce back after two tough losses last weekend as they travel to Traverse City Wednesday for their first matchup of the 2011-12 season against the North Stars. The 6:35 p.m. game is the only NAHL contest of the night.
The game is Traverse City's home opener, and their first action since the NAHL Showcase September 14-17 in Blaine, Minnesota. The North Stars and Fighting Falcons each went 3-0-1 at the showcase, with both teams a shootout loss away from a perfect record.
The North Stars wmay have revenge in mind, as the Fighting Falcons gave them their only loss of the pre-season. Port Huron beat Traverse City 5-2 in an exhibition game at Ferris State University on September 8.
Last season, the Fighting Falcons were not able to earn a victory against the North Stars in 12 tries, finishing 0-10-2 against Traverse City. Tonight's game will be broadcast live in the Blue Water Area on WHLS Sports Radio, 1450 and 1590 AM.
Port Huron suffered a pair of one-goal losses last weekend as they traveled to Flint and Kalamazoo Saturday and Sunday. Through six games, they are tied for second place in the North Division with eight points and a 3-1-2 record.
Alex Globke and Rick DeRosa scored third period goals Saturday to complete a comeback against the Warriors and send the game to overtime. Alec White scored with less than a minute and a half left in overtime to give Michigan a 3-2 overtime win.
The Fighting Falcons would see their franchise-record five-game unbeaten in regulation streak broken Sunday afternoon, as the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings earned a 5-4 victory to close out a perfect opening weekend for the NAHL's newest team.
Port Huron's home opener will take place Saturday, October 1 at 7 p.m. at McMorran Arena against the Jamestown Ironmen. Port Huron native Jack Campbell, who was selected by the Dallas Stars with the 11th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft, will be on hand to drop the ceremonial first puck and sign autographs.
Single game tickets are available now at the McMorran Arena Box Office. Tickets in any section are just $7 this season. Student, senior citizen and military tickets are only $6.
The "Stars of Tomorrow" ticket package, which includes a ticket to each of the team's seven biggest promotional nights of the season, including the home opener, is on sale now at the Box Office for $46. The first 200 fans to purchase a "Stars of Tomorrow" package will also receive a free round of golf at Black River Country Club, valid through 2012.
