Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons have re-signed left wing Scott Borders for the upcoming 2004-05 season.
Borders' return makes him the sole Falcon currently signed from the organization's 2001-02 West Coast Hockey League Taylor Cup Championship team. He played an integral role during that post-season run after turning pro straight out of the Western Hockey League at the end of the regular season. In his first full professional campaign in 2002-03, Borders recorded 38 points (19g-19a) and was named to the WCHL's All-Rookie Team before helping lead the Falcons to a repeat trip to the Taylor Cup Finals, where they eventually lost in seven games.
Last year the Alberta native sustained a biceps injury just eight games into the season that required potentially season-ending surgery. Borders instead opted to play through the pain and underwent the surgery during the off-season.
"This will be Scotty's third season with us and we've always felt he could score 20-30 goals at this level," said Falcons General Manager Blaine Moore. "He fought through his injury last year and that hindered his performance. He's committed himself to getting in better shape this season, and I think the difference between him scoring 20 and even 35 goals is being in top shape right from the get-go."
The Falcons will battle the Bakersfield Condors in pre-season games at Save Mart Center on Oct. 15 and then again on Oct. 16 at Centennial Garden before opening the 2004-05 ECHL regular season on Oct. 22 against the Las Vegas Wranglers at Save Mart Center. Full season ticket packages and Flex Packs are on sale beginning as low as $42. For complete ticket information, please visit the Falcons website at www.fresnofalcons.com/tickets.html or call the Falcons front office at (559) 485-PUCK (7825).
