Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today they have hired Mike Kelly as their new radio play-by-play broadcaster for the 2007-08 season. Kelly replaces John Michael, who recently accepted a director of broadcasting position with the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters. Kelly will be "The Voice" of the Falcons for all 80 regular season games during the 2007-08 campaign on the Falcons' flagship radio station, WHYN AM 560.
Kelly arrives in Springfield with more than 12 years of broadcasting experience, most recently spending the 2006-07 campaign with the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays. While with South Carolina, Kelly served as the radio play-by-play voice for all Stingrays' games, while also hosting weekly hockey shows. Kelly also served as the television ice level reporter for the 2007 ECHL All-Star Game during his tenure with South Carolina.
"We are very excited to have hired such a quality broadcaster in Mike Kelly," said Falcons president and general manager Bruce Landon. "In listening to Mike's play-by-play during the hiring process, we were very impressed with the quality of his broadcast and we believe our fans in Springfield will enjoy listening to Mike starting this year."
Prior to his time in South Carolina, Kelly was the director of broadcasting and media relations for the ECHL's Mississippi Sea Wolves from 2000-2006. Kelly was the 2004 ECHL media relations director of the year and also served as the radio play-by-play broadcaster for the 2003 ECHL All-Star Game.
"I am very excited to join the Springfield Falcons family," said Kelly. "My wife Suzanne, and son, Gregory and I are looking forward to becoming part of the Springfield community. It's going to be an exciting 2007-08 hockey season."
Kelly started his professional hockey broadcasting career with the Colonial Hockey League's Brantford Smoke from 1993-95. Following his time with Brantford, Kelly spent two seasons as the television play-by-play broadcaster of the Ontario Hockey Association's Orangeville Crushers, while also spending a pair of seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with both the Toronto St. Michael's Majors (1997-98) and Barrie Colts (1998-99).
The Falcons are currently accepting deposits on full, half, and 10-game ticket packages for the 2007-08 season, in addition to 40 and 10-Flex Packs. For more information please contact the Falcons office at 413-739-3344.
