Falcons Continue Online Jersey Auction for Tornado Relief

June 24, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today they have started the second phase of their online jersey auction to help benefit the Pioneer Valley Chapter of the Red Cross and aid with tornado relief throughout Western MA. Currently, there are 10 jerseys available for bid including a team autographed Columbus Blue Jackets jersey, a Martin Brodeur autographed jersey, a Henrik Zetterberg autographed jersey and an Al MacInnis autographed jersey.

Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon is not surprised by the immediate response from the hockey community to assist in raising money for the Red Cross tornado relief efforts.

"The Springfield Falcons, working in conjunction with their NHL partner the Columbus Blue Jackets, sent out a request to their friends and colleagues in both the NHL and AHL for a jersey to be used in an online auction," said Landon. "In a period of about five days, we received 21 jerseys that have been sent to us and indications there are more on the way. It is remarkable how quickly teams have rallied to assist us in our efforts to raise money for the tornado relief fund. However it is not surprising because the hockey community has always been one big family willing to assist others in a time of need. I can't thank my friends around both Leagues enough for their support".

On June 3, the Falcons made a $2,500 donation to the Pioneer Valley Chapter of the Red Cross to assist those people affected by the tornado that hit Western Massachusetts on June 1. Falcons' majority owner, Charlie Pompea, also made a personal donation of $5,000 to the Pioneer Valley Chapter of the Red Cross to benefit tornado relief efforts.

On June 4, the Falcons set up a drop off area in front of their offices on Falcons Way, allowing individuals to make donations of clothing, blankets or cash to benefit multiple agencies in the tornado relief efforts. Individuals who made a donation at the Falcons' drop off area received a ticket voucher good for any Sunday home game during the 2011-12 Falcons' season. The Falcons also collected another $1,250 for the Red Cross on June 4.
