
Fairbanks Wins Rubber Match

WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild lost the third game of a 3-game home series to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs at the Town Toyota Center Sunday, 4-1. Fairbanks won two of three games in the series.
Tyler Voigt gave the Ice Dogs the lead shortly before the midpoint of the first period when he scored on a rebound. Charlie Thauwald and Zach Vierling assisted. Voigt also scored the only goal of the second period, which came during a 5-minute major penalty with just over five minutes remaining before the second intermission. Alexander Jensen and Sean O'Rourke assisted.
J.T. Osborn extended Fairbanks' lead to 3-0 at the 10:58 mark of the third frame when he scored an unassisted marker on a shot from the bottom of the near circle. Zach Frye (Spokane, Wash.) got Wenatchee on the scoreboard with just over two minutes remaining in the contest when he scored on a slap shot from the far point. Carl-Johan Sjogren (Sodertalje, Sweden), who hit the post twice in the game, and D.J. Vandercook (Farmington Hills, Mich.) assisted. Fairbanks got that goal back moments later when John Stamohar lit the lamp. Gabe Levin and Robert Monfore assisted.
Wild goalie Marcus Zelzer (Bay, Wis.) turned aside 21 of the 25 shots he faced. Ice Dog netminder Joe Phillippi made 24 saves on 25 shots. Fairbanks went 1-for-3 on the man-advantage while Wenatchee went 0-for-4.
The Wild's next series is at home against the Fresno Monsters, one of the NAHL's new expansion teams, on Oct. 15-16. Both games will begin at 7:05 p.m.
