Extreme travels to Ohio Valley looking for first victory

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Bloomington Extreme travels to Wheeling, W.Va., in search of its first victory of the young United Indoor Football League season Saturday at 6 p.m. against Ohio Valley.

The Extreme suffered a 53-20 loss in its season opener at U.S. Cellular Coliseum against Rock River and has lost six straight games dating back to last season. Ohio Valley is also in search of its first victory of the season after suffering 47-24 and 44-37 setbacks to Evansville and Lexington, respectively.

This is the third meeting between the teams in the overall series with the Greyhounds earning two victories last season. The Extreme has a 3-4 record on the road overall.

Defense has been the constant for Ohio Valley in its first two games. The Greyhounds lead the league in pass defense, allowing 75 yards per game and rank second in overall defense with a 150.5 yards per game average. The defensive leaders are Edward Smith with 12 solo tackles and 12.5 total tackle points, along with Stephen Agyman with 11.5 tackle points.

Quarterback Freddy Ray ranks fifth in the league in total offense with a 177 yards per game average. He has completed 22 of 46 passes for 318 yards, three touchdowns and 159 yards per game average.

His leading receivers are Willie Austin and Darrell Dowery with five receptions each. Austin averages 43.5 yards per game and Dowery 41.0. Running back Keith Brooks has caught six passes for 33 yards, while rushing for 45 yards on 20 carries. Kicker John Sims is 3 of 6 on field goal attempts.

The Extreme was lead defensively in its first game by Lamar Baker, who had a league-high 11 tackle points on the strength of nine solo tackles. Wide receiver Reggie Gray caught four passes for 46 yards to lead the offense.

Bloomington will still be without the services of quarterback Dusty Burk (knee) and wide receiver Glenn Johnson, who is attending a tryout camp with the Miami Dolphins.

The Extreme returns home April 14 for a 7:05 p.m. game against RiverCity at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
