Extreme to meet arch-rival Rock River in preseason Super Bowl

The Bloomington Extreme indoor football team will play its own version of the Super Bowl when it meets the Rock River Raptors in a preseason exhibition game Feb. 29 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum at 7:05 p.m.

The game takes on Super Bowl significance because it pits teams from two different leagues. The Extreme are still members of the United Indoor Football League, while Rock River left the UIF after last season to join the Continental Indoor Football League this season.

The game also finalizes the Extreme schedule and gives the team an eighth home game.

The two teams were arch-rivals when both belonged to the UIF the last two seasons. A year ago the teams split four games, but the Extreme notched the most satisfying victory when it knocked the Raptors out of the Eastern Division playoffs in the first round with a 43-30 victory in Rockford.

"We are excited about the thought of playing Rock River one more time," said Extreme owner Ed Brady in announcing the game. "It gives our players and coaches the opportunity to get a game under their belts before we open the regular season one week later.

"It also gives our fans an eighth home game, which we promised them when we announced our season ticket plans for this season."

Fans also will be treated to free hot dogs and popcorn throughout the game, compliments of the Extreme football team and U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

The Extreme opens its regular season March 8 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum against Sioux Falls at 7:05 p.m.
