Bloomington Extreme News Release

The Bloomington Extreme are proud to announce the addition of two former AFL players to the team roster.

DE Rob Schroeder and QB Mitch Tanney are both going to be playing for the Bloomington Extreme for the upcoming 2009 season.

Defensive End Rob Schroeder (6'5", 280) played for the University of Buffalo from 2001 through 2006. After college, Schroeder went on to play for the Hamilton Tigercats of the CFL in 2006. After one season in the CFL, Schroeder joined the Austin Wranglers of the AFL in 2007. There he was an all rookie team selection and led the team in sacks and tackles for a loss. This past year Schroeder also spent time with the Utah Blaze and the Orlando Predators. In Orlando, he also led the team in sacks and tackles for loss.

"Most scouts and coaches you talk to in the AFL think he was the best defensive end in the entire league," Head Coach Kenton Carr said. "He is very intimidating at 6'5" and 280 pounds. Defense wins championships and having Rob definitely helps solidify the defense. Pressure is the key...and Rob will bring it."

Quarterback Mitch Tanney (6'4", 225) is the second addition to the Extreme roster for the spring. Tanney is a local talent who played high school football in Lexington at Lexington High School where his father was the Head Football coach. He went on to play for Division III Monmouth College. In 2006, Tanney's senior season at Monmouth, he was named the Midwest Conference player of the year and finished second in the nation in passer efficiency, completing nearly 75 percent of his passes.

Tanney's indoor football career began in 2007 with the Alabama Steeldogs of the AF2. He was named the starter four games into the season and finished with over 3,000 yards passing and 67 touchdowns. Tanney joined the AFL when signed by the Philidelphia Soul as a back up in 2008. He has also spent time in the AFL with the Tampa Bay Storm and the New Orleans Voo Doo.

"Mitch brings indoor experience to our team which is very valuable in the indoor game," Head Coach Carr said. "He is a big strong player who is a gunslinger which is very important with the receivers we have signed. Being local, is another great addition for our fans to be rooting for one of their own."
