
Extreme Set To Open Season

Fourteen players, who helped the Bloomington Extreme reach the championship game of the Eastern Conference playoffs in the United Indoor Football League last season, are on the team's opening season roster, it was announced Tuesday.
The Extreme opens the season at 7:05 p.m. Saturday against three-time defending UIF United Bowl champion Sioux Falls at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
Sioux Falls comes to town with a professional sports and football record 38-game winning streak. The Storm's has not lost a game since July 15, 2005 when Sioux City handed them a 54-48 setback.
The Storm broke the Los Angeles Lakers' winning streak of 33 games, set during the 1091-72 NBA season, last season on their way to a perfect 18-0 record.
Of the 14 players returning to the Extreme this season off last year's playoff roster, 11 were starters. The offensive starters include team most valuable player and UIF all-star MVP quarterback Dusty Burk and all-star wide receiver James Walton.
Other returning offensive starters include wide receivers Glenn Johnson and Shatone Powers along with lineman Eric D. Johnson.
The returning defensive starters include all-star lineman Quince Holman and cornerback Terrill Mayberry along with defensive lineman Eric M. Johnson and defensive backs Mike Crumpler and James Temple.
Also returning is the kicker Peter Christofilakos, the Extreme's special team most valuable player the last two years and the all-time leader in games played in franchise history.
Other returning players from last year's 30-man roster include defensive back Dion Brown, wide receiver Ken Duffy and Carlos Lattimore, who making the switch from running back to strong safety.
Four other players making this year's initial roster, who have performed for the Extreme in its first two seasons are offensive linemen Nick Ruud and Jamarkus Gorman, defensive lineman Chris Burgess and James Fuller, who is switching from running back to defensive end.
The 12 newcomers to the Extreme are led by former Ohio Valley quarterback Freddie Ray and defensive end Jeff Candler, along with former Evansville linebacker Brian Houston and af1 players Derin Graham and defensive lineman Marvin Campbell.
Other first-year players on the Extreme are running backs Andre Raymond and Marcus Washington, quarterbacks Tim Brasic and Jim DuPage, offensive lineman Curtis Fisher, linebacker Terrance Cheatham and wide receiver Ryan Bonner.
The Extreme is looking to improve on last year's 9-8 record under the guidance of first-year coach Kenton Carr.
The first 2,000 fans attending Saturday's game will receive mini footballs, compliments of U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
