Bloomington Extreme News Release
BLOOMINGTON (Ill.) - The Bloomington Extreme Indoor Football Team is pleased to announce that wide receiver John Cooper will be returning to the Extreme for the 2011 season.
The imposing, 6'5" 225 lbs. wide receiver joined the Extreme five games into the 2010 season and was the Extreme's top offensive threat during the 11 games in which Cooper played. He finished the 2010 season with 54 receptions, good for 552 yards, and 8 touchdowns. During the 2010 playoff game at Wichita, Cooper recorded 10 catches for 110 yards and scored 3 touchdowns.
"John Cooper is a tremendous asset to our ball club. He's a leader in the locker room, on the field and has a strong devotion to the community. His size and physical presence demands attention from opposing defenses. He's a winner and has had success throughout his entire football career" said Head Coach Mike Murray.
Cooper attended Marshall University where he was teammates with NFL players, Randy Moss, Daunte Culpepper, Chad Pennington, Olandis Gary, and Darius Watts amongst others. As a redshirt freshman, his Thunder Herd team won the I-AA National Championship. Marshall University then moved to Division I, and Cooper helped the team to four straight Mid-American Conference Championships and bowl appearances. While at Marshall, Cooper compiled 105 receptions, good for 1,339 yards and 8 touchdowns.
As a professional indoor football player, John Cooper has played in 103 games, totaling 4,525 yards on 396 receptions, to go along with 72 touchdowns. Cooper played with the Ohio Valley Greyhounds and Lexington Horsemen prior to joining the Extreme in 2010.
The Bloomington Extreme will open training camp Sunday, February 13, 2011 and kick off the season two weeks later, Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum against the Richmond Revolution with a 3:05 pm start time.
