Bloomington Extreme News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Bloomington Extreme (9-4) defense held the RiverCity Rage (8-4) to 170 yards of total offense and forced four turnovers in their 20-16 win at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum Saturday. Ty Myers led the charge with two fumbles and three solo tackles.
The Extreme marched the opening drive 30 yards down field and was capped off by a Soso Brooks 4-yard touchdown run. On the defensive side of the ball, Laroche Jackson had his ninth pick of the season which led to a 29-yard field goal by Peter Christofilakos to give the Extreme a 10-0 lead at the 6:59 mark in the first quarter. The Rage's kicker, Jason Bondzio, punched in two field goals but entered halftime trailing the Extreme, 12-7.
The second half had a defensive tone, which included a scoreless third quarter. The first points didn't come until Bonzio knocked in his third field goal of the night from 49 yards out, which cut the deficit to 12-10 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The Extreme countered when Christofilakos knocked in two field goals, including a 53-yard shot, and extended the Extreme lead to 18-10 with :20 remaining in the contest. The Rage scored on a 7-yard touchdown pass by Maruice Avery, but failed on the two-point conversation and ended up falling to the Extreme, 20-16.
The Extreme will try to make it five-straight wins when they host the Maryland Maniacs June 20 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum at 7:05 p.m., to conclude their regular season.
